Cobb County has a 16-step program starting at $50,373 and ending at $77,574. Current officers in the department are placed in the Step and Grade system with their years of service minus one since they do not receive a raise during their first year. This would mean that a lateral officer would come in under the same rules. For example, an officer with five years of experience would come in at a step four.
Below is our current Step and Grade scale:
Step 1 $24.22 hour - 0-2 years of service
Step 2 $25.09 hour - 3 years of service
Step 3 $25.96 hour - 4 years of service
Step 4 $26.83 hour - 5 years of service
Step 5 $27.71 hour - 6 years of service
Step 6 $28.58 hour - 7 years of service
Step 7 $29.45 hour - 8 years of service
Step 8 $30.32 hour - 9 years of service
Step 9 $31.19 hour - 10 years of service
Step 10 $32.06 hour - 11 years of service
Step 11 $32.94 hour - 12 years of service
Step 12 $33.81 hour - 13 years of service
Step 13 $34.68 hour - 14 years of service
Step 14 $35.55 hour - 15 years of service
Step 15 $36.42 hour - 16 years of service
Step 16 $37.30 hour - 17+ years of service
It depends on several factors. Are you a mandated peace officer through the P.O.S.T. Council? Do you have two (2) consecutive years in a full time sworn position? Did you perform duties that are similar to those performed by police officers within the Cobb County Police Department? Our background investigators will help determine if you are eligible to receive the lateral officer incentives.
There is no financial benefit for Cobb County Deputies to transfer since they are already in the Step and Grade program. If they are mandated, they will not have to go through the academy again and will be respected as veteran officers.
